The geography department provides pupils with the opportunity to develop a variety of transferable skills whilst studying the dynamic environment in which we live. Through geography, pupils learn about people and their societies, economies, cultures and the environment, all increasingly important areas in our changing world.

Our extensive school grounds provide us with excellent field work sites in which we run an orienteering course and operate an automated weather station. In Year 12 pupils develop the skills associated with team work, fieldwork and hypothesis testing through their fieldwork studies on coastal management.

The geography department prides itself on its use of technology to enhance learning and develop key skills for the future. iPads are used regularly in lessons and in the computer suite pupils develop the analytical, research and communication skills needed for university and beyond.

The department enjoys strong links with the local branch of the Geographical Association and pupils attend evening lectures held at Bristol University. We are proud of our excellent results and our pupils have been successful in securing places to study Geography at top universities. Most importantly, we produce well- read,environmentally-aware geographers, who can be critical in their understanding of important world issues.
