We strive to engage the natural curiosity of our pupils to discover the world around them. We achieve this through teaching of the highest quality with a blend of practical activities, group work, research activities, lectures and the integrated use of technologies such as iPads.
Our Sixth Form Laboratory is very well equipped, with sufficient facilities to allow each pupil to work individually to develop the practical competence and skills required in the modern world. Our pupils thrive in the small classes and we are fortunate to have two members of the department who are examiners for the Edexcel exam board and another member who has developed resources for Oxford University Press and Learning Science’s A-Level Chemistry Lab Skills tool.
Our pupils regularly take part in national competitions and enjoy the challenges this brings. We participate with success in the Chemistry Olympiad, the Cambridge Challenge, and the Young Analyst Competition. Our pupils also benefit from our close partnership with Bristol University and have the opportunity to work with PhD pupils and academics who are leading the way in materials science and nanotechnology.
We provide additional weekly tutorial sessions to support and extend learning beyond the curriculum. We have many successful Oxbridge entrants and our pupils achieve impressive marks in their exams, including the highest mark in the country – an achievement recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
