|Our school’s stated aims
Our aim at Colston’s is to develop the talents of all pupils by involving them in a wide-ranging educational experience. We are very committed to excellence in academic, cultural and sporting pursuits, and we strive to maintain excellent relationships between our fully-qualified staff and pupils and also between school and home.
We have a gifted and talented policy which we view as part of the school’s commitment towards inclusion and we endeavour to provide an environment where all pupils are enabled to realise their full potential.
Our Junior school offers each child the chance to explore a wide range of activities and educational experiences without being channelled into one particular area. With a wide variety of activities at lunchtime and after school available our children are able to develop themselves independently.
We try to ensure that all pupils have opportunities to develop specific skills or talents and we aim to make learning as exciting as possible because we know that the more fun you have in the classroom, the more you will understand and this helps you to think independently.
We know that everyone loves a challenge and so have organised a group that undertakes tasks and activities which will provide just that for our pupils.
Within our Junior department (Years 3to 6) a number of pupils are selected to join the school’s ‘Broadening Horizon’s’ group that meet once a week. The programme is intended to cover a range of themes to enhance their knowledge and skills. Recent activities have included mind mapping skills, debating skills and the use of ICT for news and marketing information.
