We are proud to offer a happy, welcoming and secure environment in which children settle quickly; they look forward to coming to school. Over the year the children grow in confidence, become more independent and establish positive routines.
The Nursery is an integral part of the school and works very closely with Reception to make the progression as smooth as possible. The children joining our Nursery from age 3 will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:
- Communication and language;
- Physical development; and
- Personal, social and emotional development.
These prime areas are those most essential for your child's healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:
- Understanding the world; and
- Expressive arts and design.
These 7 areas are used to plan your child's learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are fun and suited to each child's unique needs. This is similar to a curriculum for older children, but it is suitable for very young children, and is designed to be flexible and enjoyable so that staff can follow each child's unique needs and interests.
Progress in Nursery and Reception is monitored carefully through the use of Interactive Learning Diaries.
The teachers record observations and progress for each child during the school day and parents have their own secure access to their child’s Learning Diary so that observations made at home can also be uploaded. We encourage regular discussions with parents to discuss how children are settling in and progressing.
