In design & technology we aim to innovate, inspire and develop the creative and problem solving skills our pupils will need in the twenty-first century. Pupils learn about the principles and the importance of design and technology in the world around them.
Through opportunities to discuss design principles, as well as learning basic construction and CAD skills, pupils are able to deconstruct and analyse outside of the classroom environment. In such a rapidly changing world it is important that our pupils develop the confidence to apply their skills to meet the design-based challenges of the future.
At Key Stage 4 pupils can choose either Resistant Materials or Graphic Products and benefit from taking ownership of the projects they wish to pursue. With small classes we are able to give each pupil the opportunity to choose their own brief and make a product they have designed from start to finish. However functional the product, from coffee tables to packaging and advertising, we encourage our pupils to be original and creative. These products are then showcased and celebrated by pupils, parents and staff at our annual exhibition.
At A Level students can study Product Design. This course encourages students to take a broader view of both design and technology, and develops their capacity to design and make products with a target market in mind.
