History is a flourishing department which provides pupils with an exciting and varied curriculum. At Key Stage 3 we follow the National Curriculum which gives a broad view of British and world history. At A-Level there is scope for pupils to choose their own areas of historical interest and study these in greater depth.

Pupils build skills across all stages of their history studies. We challenge and support all levels of ability, with the emphasis on fostering an open-minded approach to events based on the evaluation of evidence.

We are proud of the number of pupils who achieve Russell Group entry to study history at university. A significant number of former pupils are now teaching history at secondary level or beyond.

The department has organised trips to Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Turkey and the USA. In 2014-15 we will be co-ordinating the WW1 Centenary Events across the school. The Department also organises trips across the curriculum to bring history to life.
